A Gathering Storm

The Lay of Mortelis

Violent rainstorms on the approach to Stromdorf have swollen the river. A collapsed river crossing makes the way ahead treacherous and the boat goes over in the storm.
Hands are lost but all the heroes get to shore “safely”. Ingesting river water tainted by rats results in Mortelis having the Trots for some time to come.
Arrival in a damp city
Stromdorf is a muddy and dank place. It is suffering due to raids on its grain stocks and the storms appear to be getting worse.
An appointment missed, an Ally lost
The merchant who hired the party cannot find his contact. he implores for the group to assist him in finding his lost colleague.
Investigations commence and it is discovered that the last time he was seen was in the hostelry run by a halfling.
Following the merchant to the farm
Group decides to investigate further as it is determined he was seen leaving the tavern in the company of a member of the Holtz family.
Destruction at the hands of the beast
One of the outlying farms is a burned out ruin. Recent violence took place here.
The Holtz farm is further into the Uberslacht and upon arrival an argument is taking place.
The Holtz clan are a “sorry” looking bunch of miscreants but reason wins out and the fight is prevented.
Solla and the Sorceror
The matriarch of the family asks Solla to speak to someone. A Mysterious cloaked figure at a gnarled tree, bedecked with trinkets.
The figure speaks of a threat to Stromdorf at the hands of the local beatman tribe. It’s leader must be put down so that the tribe will cease to be a threat.
Solla is aware of the creatures nature, yet this is not revealed.
Agreements are made and the group head to the herdstone.
Conflict at the herdstone, a golden shot
Mighty Beastman and minions
Mortelis leaps into fray and is batted aside like an annoyance
Daiths persistence and inhuman bowmanship
Solla’s heroism
Roberts Tenacity
Return to apparent safety, Solla uncovers a horror
Limping back, with wounded fellows, the group rests back at the Holtz farm.
While in coversation with Marie Holtz, Solla uncovers a worrisome detail. Foaldeath is Marie’s son. Born a mutant and left for the beastmen.
This secret is kept close to her chest for fear of the reaction it will bring from the impulsive and seemingly bloodthirsty Wood elves.
A halfling and poison
Following the visions granted from Loec, Mortelis guides the group to confront the evil halfling poisoner. A wizard, freshly arrived from Nuln (?) offers his services to solve the puzzle of the stone. The elves insist the stone must be kept beneath the temple of Sigmar.
The Holtz clan arrested
With the Halflings testimony the authorities detain the cart driver (ernst?) and soon the entire family is put behind bars. Fromt eh youngest to the oldest.
The Holtz clan convicted
Solla’s “defence” in the courtroom.
The Holtz clan executed
The entire inbred clan is put to hang! Only the innocent children are spared, thanks to Solla’s defence.
The town turns out en masse to watch the event.
The rising of the dead
Zombies walk the streets of Stromdorf. The executed Holtz clan have torn free of their nooses and stumble through town bent on hellish revenge.
The captain of the guard is more concerned about reactive defense than seeking out the cause.
The Garden of Morr
No answer from the priest in residence.
A side entrance is used.
The entire graveyard rises and masses for an attack.
The heroes retreat to the mausoleum.
An unexpected foe defeated. Stichelm arisen
A Necromancer is the cause, clothed in the corpse of a town suicide. The hero of Stromdorf has been recruited for the necromancers vile purpose.
The Priest of Morr is imperilled and must be rescued.
Stichelm’s shield is his grave stone and also happens to be another piece of the lightning stone.
The necromancer’s amulet is destroyed at great risk to life and limb. Mortelis is blasted from the steeple of the temple of Sigmar by wrathsome lightning.
Farmers attract trouble
The absent burgermeister is finally willing to see our heroes. Although not as willing to hear their criticisms. But he needs their help, outlying farms have complained of inexplicable attacks and loss of livestock. This bodes ill for the reduced grain stocks of the town.
Transport is arranged for the heroes to go and investigate.
Ruins, what ruins?
En route to the farms to the south the fellows convince their guide, a local farmer, to stop close to a knoll that locals claim is a haunted ruin.
Daith see’s no ruins and Solla hears demonic voices.
Night Goblins in the fields
A nighttime vigil reveals the criminals to be Night Goblins, armed with a soporific weapon. They are followed into the night by the elves. Some are put to the sword and the rest are tracked to a farm. It’s inhabitants possibly put to death but the place now infested with the greenskin filth.
A Troll, a headcase and a flea
A farm overrun with Night Goblins. Scouted. Returned to during the day to minimise risk. Barn put to the blaze. A troll is released. The shaman is put down. The sole survivor adopts Robert. Another piece of the lightning stone is recovered, it was being used as the Shaman’s palanquin.
A clash over a blade
The blade, Tacitus, has affected Daith. He refuses to relinquish it. He and Mortelis come to blows. Solla shocks the men from their rage with ice water.
The final piece of the lightning stone
Research and questioning reveal the final resting place of the fourth and final fragment of the lightning stone. It lies beneath the temple of Sigmar.
Beneath Sigmar’s gaze, a traitor revealed
The final piece is recovered. The stone is an elven artifact, tasked with keeping closed a rift in the aethyr.
The wizard shows his true colours, he wishes the stone and its power for himsself.
He flees to lay claim to its powers.
The Wizard, the Torrent and the Comet
The wizard is pursued to the rift, a tumult is in that place.
The villain is put down but not before he is able to call down a mighty comet to lay waste to his opponents.
Our heroes survive the blast, barely.
The heavens part, yet vision is cloudier than ever
With clear blue skies Stromdorf is unaware of what transpired and even less willing to believe the wizard was the cause.
The comet is seen as an omen from Sigmar.
There is much celebration.
